Tetsu Maeda (live-action Saru Lock the Movie) is directing a live-action film adaptation of Shigeru Tsuchiyama's gourmet manga Gokudō Meshi in Japan. In the story, prisoners battle over entrees in their New Year's Day meals by telling the best stories about delicious food they have had in the past. Maeda shot the film over a period of 12 days.
Tsuchiyama's original Gokudō Meshi manga, whose title can be translated to "Criminals' Meals," has been running in Futabasha's Manga Action anthology since 2006, and the sixth compiled book volume shipped in July. Tsuchiyama is known for his series that revolve around food, such as Kenka Ramen ("Fighting Ramen") and Shokking ("Food King").
The film will open in Japanese theaters in 2011.
