Fox's 2011-2012 Schedule: The X Factor Marks Its Spot

Labels:

Fox has laid out its calendar for next season. The biggest addition to the network's schedule is Simon Cowell's The X Factor, but Fox is spreading out all its new shows across the entire week except for Fridays. Remember, Fox doesn't air primetime programming from 10-11, so there are six fewer hours (no one bothers with Saturday) in its weekly schedule. Here's how it shakes out (as usual, everything is subject to change):

Mondays:
Steven Spielberg's prehistoric sci-fi drama Terra Nova anchors Monday nights at 8, followed by House. Terra Nova was originally planned to air a preview episode this month, but producers thought it could use a little more time with its special effects team, so it was pushed back to a normal fall launch. Come midseason, House will move to 8 and JJ Abrams' Alcatraz, about mysterious goings-on at the famed island prison, will slide into the 9pm slot.

Tuesdays:
Glee and Raising Hope stay put on Tuesdays, with new comedy New Girl, starring Zooey Deschanel, sandwiched in between at 9pm. That lineup stays the same in midseason, but Fox is talking about planting a two-hour comedy block next year when Glee is on hiatus. Among the candidates for the four slots: New Girl, Raising Hope, I Hate My Teenage Daughter (starring Jaime Pressly), and the two pilots Family Album and Little in Common.

Wednesdays:
Midweek is talent-show time for Fox! The X Factor's performance show will run 90 minutes starting at 8pm, followed by I Hate My Teenage Daughter at 9:30pm. At midseason, swap out The X Factor for American Idol (heck, you may not even notice the difference). The big question here is if audiences will glom on to The X Factor like they do American Idol. The other, more appropriate, question is: How many frickin' talent shows do we need on TV?

Thursdays:
Thursdays start with the one-hour results show for The X Factor, followed by Bones. Come 2012, American Idol will air its results show followed by Bones spinoff The Finder before Bones returns in the spring.

Fridays:
No change on Fridays--all season it's Kitchen Nightmares and Fringe. These two shows go together like peanut butter and tuna casserole! Fringe will go against NBC's new fantasy series Grimm, and possibly the CW's Supernatural (the CW schedule will be announced Thursday at the latest).

Sundays:
Animation Domination spreads out a bit next year, with The Cleveland Show starting at 7:30pm, followed by (in order) The Simpsons, new 'toon Allen Gregory (about a 7-year-old boy who leaves the sheltered homeschooling life for a public elementary school), Family Guy, and American Dad. In midseason new show Napoleon Dynamite takes over for Allen Gregory and Bob's Burgers returns in American Dad's slot.

Not yet with a home on the schedule, but expected to debut in midseason, is Touch, a new drama from Heroes creator Tim Kring. Kiefer Sutherland will play the father of an autistic boy who can see the way the world is interconnected.

Nothing shocking here with Fox's schedule, aside from its push into live-action comedy. Does anything stick out for you?
