Jackass Star Ryan Dunn Dies in Car Crash

Rest in peace, Ryan Dunn. The lovable Jackass star was killed in a horrible car crash in Pennsylvania early this morning. His passenger was also killed. A preliminary police report said “speed may have been a contributing factor.” Another factor: Just hours before, Dunn had posted photos to Twitter of himself and some buddies drinking at a bar.

Reaction came swiftly from the Twittersphere, most of it shocked and saddened at the loss of a sweet spirit and all-around great guy. Jackass co-star and longtime buddy Johnny Knoxville tweeted, “Today I lost a my brother Ryan Dunn. My heart goes out to his family and his beloved Angie. RIP Ryan, I love you buddy.” MTV released this statement:

“We are devastated by the tragic loss of Ryan Dunn—a beloved member of the MTV family for more than a decade, he made us all laugh and had the tireless enthusiastic approach to life of your favorite middle school friend. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Ryan’s family and friends. The Jackass brotherhood will never be the same.”

Randomly, Roger Ebert posted a harsh tweet about the accident, saying, “Friends don't let jackasses drink and drive.” The Twitter community has come down hard on the famous film critic for a remark they deem as grossly insensitive.

As for Dunn’s new G4 show, Proving Grounds, the network told EW that it’s “off the schedule … until we discuss next steps.” The show, a tailor fit for Dunn’s particular talents, would test out video game and movie stunts to see how they hold up in the real world—kind of like an extreme, full-contact Mythbusters.
All in all, just horrible news and a sad, sad tragedy. Dunn will be missed.
